THE ROLE

As our legal expert, you’ll work on varied and highly dynamic objectives, from handling legal operations, managing outside counsels and developing documentation from scratch, researching regulations, and managing internal compliance procedures.

This is a senior role requiring a successful candidate to act independently across all related legal matters with the possibility to develop legal strategies in novel and non-regulated fields; this will require going beyond the standard boundaries and collaborating with different stakeholders, whether internal or outside.

This role requires a deep understanding of emerging technologies, securities regulations, and associated risks. There are no not too big not too small goals, risks, and matters to be assessed. You’ll have a high level of responsibility and autonomy

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform the legal review, assess risks and opportunities
• Develop and implement legal analysis and strategy to support growth and mitigate risks
• Advise on areas of law relevant to tech startups, including intellectual property and employment
• Research laws and regulations in the US as well as relevant foreign jurisdictions to aid strategic decisions on business opportunities.
• Manage day-to-day legal operations within the company (contractual agreements, structuring, compliance etc.)
• Negotiate partnerships, investments, grants and commercial agreements
• Manage the full cycle of corporate documentation, from planning and drafting to implementation
• Contribute to building a streamlined legal operation process that can grow with the startup
• Work closely with the team to improve the efficiency of legal operations

REQUIREMENTS

• A legal degree from an ABA-approved school (JD or applicable equivalent)
• An active license in a U.S. state, and an active license in a common-law jurisdiction will be a plus
• 6+ years of PQE as an in-house counsel and/or in a law firm with a focus on informational technologies, digital/cryptocurrencies, securities laws and regulations, and related matters
• Proven experience with cryptocurrency projects and hands-on experience with decentralised projects, DAOs and their governance-related matters
• Familiarity with blockchain, Cosmos and DeFi. Understanding Tendermint, the Cosmos SDK, and IBC is a plus
• The ability to learn about new technologies is a must
• Passion for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology and advocacy of decentralised solutions and projects
